Zoe Squirrell

What do you take for granted in your equestrian life? Being able to see your horse when you like? Being able to get off your horse whenever you like? Or how about in normal life? Being able to cope with loud noises or even read at speed when needed? Probably all of these and more. But that isn’t the case for everyone. As Zoe Squirrell, International Para Rider explains on today’s episode.

Para dressage, raising awareness and achieving dream with Zoe Squirrell

Zoe was born prematurely and suffered a brain haemorrhage that caused the disabilities she has today. She found riding as a form of therapy, rode at school as part of her PE GCSE, and then went on to start her para rider journey with some amazing horses.

Of course, there have been many ups and downs, including huge trips to ride, lame horses, taking a break, and doing amazing things at National Championships.

Zoe shares her journey, the trials and tribulations she has faced, and also the importance of accessibility.

Tune in, enjoy, and learn. Zoe is incredibly inspiring and passionate about education.

do you say no enough

It might only be a two letter word, but for many of us, ‘no’ can be the hardest word to say. So much so, that instead of saying no when we don’t want to do things, we say yes, because it’s easier. But the thing is, it’s easier in that moment, for that split second, but the ongoing feeling that’s left when you know you said something you really didn’t mean lasts a whole lot longer. So do you say no enough? This podcast might help…

Do you say no enough?

When you say ‘no’, how does it make you feel? For many of us, saying no to opportunities, to work, can fill us with fear from all sorts of angles, and can make what should be a ‘no’, a resounding ‘yes!’. But is that a good thing? I don’t think it is.

Of course, the reason you want to say no has a huge bearing on this, but if you’re saying yes because you feel you should, then this one is for you.

We all have 24 hours in a day, and it’s important we use our time well. Not just for work, but for all the other bits that make life brilliant for us. Each time we say ‘yes’ to something, we’re saying ‘no’ to something else, because part of our time for the day, week or month has been eaten. Which makes it all the more important that our ability to say no really is as good as it can be, so we leave space for the game-changing amazing stuff, politely decline the things that don’t light us up, and push forward towards our goals.

Wow- that two letter word really does have a lot of power, doesn’t it?!

It’s been a while since I recorded an interview with someone in person, but on today’s episode I’m joined by my video and podcast editor (who’s also my husband, but you’ll probably get quite quickly!), Laurence Freeman.

How to record better videos for social media in 2022

We all know that the popularity of video continues to surge on social media- but how can we take better videos? How can what we capture make editing easier and faster? And does sound really matter if we’re looking at the moving pictures?!

On this episode, Laurence shares the knowledge he’s gathered from editing videos for me and many other brands over the years, as well as some great tips to make your videos better, and make them a whole lot easier to edit- whether you do it yourself or someone else does!

Video is here, and it’s growing… you can’t avoid it any longer!

I don’t know about you, but I feel like 2021 has been a long learning experience, do you feel like that? It’s taught me a lot- and I’m very grateful for it- and I wanted to share these points in the first podcast of 2022.

What 2021 has taught me

What 2021 has taught me…

Now- word of warning- it does start a little low (my husband who edits the podcast did suggest that the first part is a little dark- apologies 🤣) but it gets a lot brighter. And the point is that not all lessons come from good experiences- right? And if I only shared the good stuff, how useful would that really be?

From what three months of homeschooling taught me (more than what a vertices is!) to simple pleasures, the things that really matter to asking for what you want. I’ve been schooled. And I’m ready to take all this learning forward into 2022. Whatever that has in store…

But it isn’t just about me, I would love to know what 2021 taught you- the good, the bad and the ugly. Comment over on my Instagram post all about this podcast- I’m @rheafreemanpr over there!
