Getting LinkedIn with Jennifer Corcoran

I’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Corcoran, a LinkedIn expert who I connected with through, yes, you guessed it! After we both won awards through Enterprise Nation’s Top 50 Advisers awards, Jennifer reached out, connected, and we got chatting. Following this, I completed one of Jennifer’s courses, learnt lots, and wanted to share.

On this week’s episode, Jennifer lifts the lid on this fabulous platform. We talk about how she found the platform to start with, why she decided to focus here out of all the platforms available, favourite parts, profiles vs pages, highs and lows, and some great tips from Jennifer that will help you make positive changes to your profile today. Enjoy!

This episode’s working title was simply ‘the voices’ because that seemed the best description!

Too many voices… how to cut through the noise to grow and thrive

Over the last year particularly, there have been a LOT of free challenges, webinars, courses, downloads, you name it, promoted online. Have you noticed? And, often, these are created by people you don’t know and have never met (but you fall into their ads audience online).

This can be great as it can help you to discover people who have skills you don’t that you can learn from. But what happens when there are too many people offering these amazing things and you start to feel a bit overwhelmed? Maybe you’ve even signed up or downloaded some (all!) of these free resources, and instead of you feeling empowered and educated, you feel paralysed because you’re more confused than ever and don’t know what to do for fear of doing everything wrong?

Yeah- that’s what the voices can do to you! And on this week’s podcast, I’m talking all about them, how to find the right ones to listen to, why it’s really important to silence the others… and how you’re already pretty damn fabulous as you are- you’re simply improving on what you have!

Flo Carter Eventing

You know when you get an email at 9.28pm and you need to reply instantly? Well, that was how this podcast with the lovely, honest, and fun Flo Carter aka @flocartereventing came to be.

Honesty is the best policy, with Flo Carter Eventing

Flo has been a supporter of the podcast for a good while now, but it was one particularly episode that spurred her into action, the one all about how to pitch to be on a podcast. And my goodness me, the email was a masterclass.

As per the podcast, Flo ticked all the boxes, and shared why she felt that you lovely lot would like to hear from her. I agreed wholeheartedly with what she said, I wanted to hear everything about the journey.

Flo is a 19 year old event rider who, at the end of a disappointing 2019 season decided to turn to social media, to find others with similar experiences. But she couldn’t. She’d found a gap in the market for higher level equestrians to share their very honest take on the highs and lows of the sport.

In 2020, Flo decided that her social media accounts would lead the way.

In the space of just 12 short months, Flo’s social media quadrupled with over 25k Instagram followers and over 10k monthly views on YouTube.

In this podcast, Flo shares her journey to this place, but also what it’s like to have a social media account that explodes, what it’s like to work with brands, how she works with the algorithm, and so much else.

It’s a great episode- thank you so much Flo for reaching out!

How to use Instagram Guides

Have you seen Guides on Instagram? This relatively new feature provides a way for users of the platform to organise and group together content by whatever theme or idea they like.

How to use Instagram Guides

In this podcast, you’ll learn all about the three different types of Guides you can create through Instagram, pick up some ideas about how you might be able to use them on your account, and how they can help content live for longer on the platform.

What are the three types of Guide (available at time of publishing, obviously!)

Places – great if you want to great a guide that collates information connected to a specific place. Maybe it’s a guide around great places to visit close to where your shop is based? Maybe you’re showing people your favourite places to hang out in your local area? Or how about great places to eat, drink and sleep close to events and venues?

Products – if you have a shop, this is a no brainer, but also, if you’re a brand ambassador, this is great too. If the brand you’re working with has an Instagram Shop, you’re available to share items from their Shop on your Guide. This could also work if you’re just a keen fan of a number of brands – you don’t need to be formally connected to them to make it work!

Posts– this is the one I use the most. When you make a Guide of your posts, you’re grouping your own posts together in specific categories so people can browse these posts without having to search through your entire feed. It’s a good way to pull out things that are really important to you as a brand or influencer.

I hope you enjoy this episode. If you have a few moments and would consider rating and reviewing this podcast, I’d be hugely grateful!

Let’s talk about Make It British, shall we? This fab business and community was created by Kate Hills with the simple aim of helping British-made brands grow, and she is passionate and then some about it!

Flying the flag for UK made with Kate Hills of Make It British

Kate shares her passion for UK made and how she came to setting up Make It British after working for two big high street brands who had their products made abroad.

Well aware of all the incredible skills developed in the UK throughout history, Kate set about researching what was really available here and found lots of incredible manufacturers still beavering away, creating beautiful things, and delighting customers. Fast forward a little, and a business dedicated to flying the flag for British manufacture was born!

In this podcast, we chat all about Make It British, the potential benefits of making in the UK, how to find the right manufacturer for you, and #madeinukday which is on 9th March 2021!
