Being sustainable at home and at the yard with Zoe Kiff

zoe kiff honest riders sustainability challenge

Zoe Kiff, founder of Honest Riders, is well known for her gorgeous clothing designs, but at the core of Honest Riders is something even greater – and that’s the drive to be sustainable.

Being sustainable at home and at the yard with Zoe Kiff

Honest Riders, and its continual growth and evolution centres around this. In fact, Zoe is so committed to sustainability that it’s in every aspect of what she does, from the organic cotton used to make her clothing to the Fair Wear factories used, ensuring every horse care item is cruelty free to the way she packages parcels. Zoe has learnt (and shares) a huge amount sustainability through her social media – and not just in relation to Honest Riders. In relation to everything… enter the Sustainability Challenge.

In this episode we talk about why it’s important to be sustainable but also the Sustainability Challenge (which launches on 1/7/20) which encourages people to ditch, switch and commit to six small changes around the home, yard and beyond. Not only does this challenge help to inspire and unite, but what I always admire about Zoe is how there’s no guilt tripping involved. There’s resources and information, and also the desire to help people make small and practical changes to make a big impact.

Now, who’s googling bamboo toothbrushes?

Don’t send the damn DM!

It’s a slightly ranty title (I know it is, sorry!), but it’s an important subject. Don’t send the damn DM, today’s podcast, is all about how to use DMs well. Because they are the most amazing tools that can allow us to grow and nurture relationships through our social media. But when they’re abused, they lose their value. And that’s what we’re talking about. When not to send the damn DM!

Don’t send the damn DM!

On this podcast, we chat all about when not to send a brand or person a direct message on social media. DMs provide the most amazing opportunity to connect with people in a different way- and it’s so so important that you don’t abuse it. So, some top tips…

  • Don’t approach anyone in their DMs and be unpleasant. Nastiness has no place on social media. And saying ‘no hate’ afterwards when you’ve just assassinated someone’s character or their appearance doesn’t undo it. Just don’t.
  • Don’t be unprofessional on social media. Please. There’s no need and all you’ll do is upset the recipient, and give yourself a big black mark against your name.
  • Don’t be inconsiderate. Social media and the internet has completely blurred the lines of work and life… and that isn’t just for small businesses and solopreneurs, it’s blurred the lines for so many. Please be aware that if you send a brand a message at 9pm on a Friday night, do not expect an immediate response. It’s not reasonable at all. Please don’t.
  • Don’t send unsolicited approaches. Please. The chances of your success are in the minus numbers if you haven’t put in the work or showed respect to the people you’re trying to connect with.
  • Don’t spam people and don’t ask for too much from people you don’t know or support. You’re unlikely to get a reaction and if you do, it won’t be nice. If these are people who know you and like you and you’re really supportive of them, asking for their help makes sense, but when someone gets approached out of the blue and they’ve been asked for far too much, it’s not good.

So that’s the end of the podcast. It’s a bit of a feisty one, and the intention is not to offend people, far from it, but to help educate everyone around what people receive, and how to navigate DMs correctly so people feel happier, more valued, and so much else too.

Finding a new career after being ill-health retired with Teresa Lewis Art

Teresa Lewis is an artist (at Teresa Lewis Art, obviously) who was ill-health retired way before retirement age due to a variety of health issues. Over time, Teresa found art to be a creative outlet that also helped her to make a difference to the people who received her pieces, improve her feelings of self worth, and later develop a business that offers both commissions and products to equestrian and rural enthusiasts.

In this podcast, Teresa talks about her journey to where she is today, gives some great advice to people suffering with invisible illnesses, chats about imposter syndrome, and also shares some tips on what she does when she has down days. We also talk about her business journey and turning a hobby and passion into a business, the highs and lows so far… and so much more too.

As always, if you tune in, please do screenshot, share to Stories and tag us both. It’s an inspiring one!

Five Instagram Stories you can do this week

Instagram Stories

Are you lacking a little bit of Instagram Story inspiration? Fear not! To celebrate the launch of my Instagram Stories course (Social Supercharge: Instagram Stories), this podcast is all about five Instagram Stories you can do this week. And it’s packed with other cheeky tips too to help you get on board and enjoy them.

As you’ll hear in this podcast, I talk about my course… and you can find out more about that here.

Five Instagram Stories you can do this week

There are SO many things you can create Instagram Stories about, but here are five ideas to get you started!

Behind the scenes… and you can share the behind the scenes of anything! This is a great way to let people into your unfiltered life and give people more opportunity to connect with you.

Sharing a thought… maybe you want to explain a thought behind a grid post? Or something you’re dealing with… or even the thought behind the content you’re promoting at the moment. Podcast Wednesday is a great example as each Wednesday I try and do a series of Instagram Stories about the podcast and why I think people should listen and the process behind it.

A how to... show a process on Instagram Stories. And you can do this in lots of different ways. You can record in real time, or you can edit it, you can do whatever you like. Showing a ‘how to’ in steps or in your Instagram Stories can be a great way to educate your audience around the content you share or what you do.

Ask an opinion. A poll is an easy way to ask an opinion, which is great for engagement but also a really good way to find out what your audience are into. You can change the options inside the poll if you like, from Yes and No to other words and even emojis. In addition to asking people’s opinion, you can also have polls as a way for people to vote on a competition, for example. You can also have fun with this. Have a look at Abi Lyle’s Instagram Stories for more inspiration (and find out more about her here as she did a podcast with me a little while ago!)

What’s new with you? It might be something that’s new with your routines, a new purchase, a new addition to your store… or something else. It’s a great way for people to connect with you over the new thing and you can make it as fun or as serious as you like. I did this a little while ago and actually did an IGTV about a new stationery haul from Emily Cole. People loved it (and I shared to Instagram Stories too)

And as promised, here’s a link to your Stories freebie!
