Brand ambassadors or influencers? Who should I work with?

Do you want to work with a brand ambassador or an influencer? Do you want to be an influencer or a brand ambassador? Is there even a difference?! That’s what this episode of the Small & Supercharged podcast is all about!

Brand ambassadors or influencers? Who should I work with?

I regularly get asked this question, and it’s easy to see why there’s a confusion, because in many ways, they’re very similar. However, there are reasons why you might opt to work with one vs. the other, or reasons why you as an influencer might like to stay unattached to any particular brand.

Influencers, brand ambassadors, and sponsored people are such a key part of so many industries now, and take up an increasing amount of marketing budgets because of the ROI that they can deliver. That is, if the right brand ambassador or influencer is selected. Not only does this episode cover the basics in terms of the difference, it also goes a bit deeper and shares loads of tips around working with both.

So, what’s the difference?!

One of the key differences (in my experience) between ambassador and influencer is their ‘loyalty’ to a brand. A brand ambassador will usually have a long standing connection to the brand they’re an ambassador for, and will also (generally) not work with brands that conflict with any they’re a brand ambassador for. You’d expect to see regular mentions woven into content too.

And what about an influencer? Influencers are usually people with larger social media accounts that promote a range of different products without showing specific brand loyalty. To make any collaboration work, the influencer needs to have an alignment with aspects of the brand, but that doesn’t mean you’ll only see products from that brand. Usually, a brand would work with an influencer on a specific campaign rather than on a long term basis.

As always, if you tune in and like what you hear, please consider leaving a review- I’d really appreciate it.

James Marshall Will Bees Bespoke

Will Bees Bespoke is a well known British brand, based in Salcombe, whose beautiful bags are eye catching, easy to use, and have bespoke touches to make them extra special too.

Bags, bees and being bespoke with James Marshall from Will Bees Bespoke

On this episode, I chat to James Marshall, co-owner of Will Bees Bespoke, about growing brands, social media, the future, and so much more.

We discuss the transition between shows and the Salcombe shop to online, working with influencers, USPs, and a stunning new, exclusive collection that has the loveliest story behind it.

You’ll hear all about this incredible exclusive collection in the podcast, but just to whet your appetite a little, the stunning fabric designed used was created by a very talented lady called Emma Mawston. Emma was previously the head of design at Liberty Art Fabrics, so has a lot of form when it comes to amazing designs, but this project is something else and extra special to Will Bees Bespoke. To create these designs, Emma visited sites across Devon and Cornwall (so, very much in Will Bees Bespoke’s part if the UK) and drew bee friendly flowers to create a fab, exclusive design that keep bees at the heart of it all.

As you’d expect, there’s a great story behind the brand, a muddy low, soaring highs, a discussion about what’s to come from this fab brand, a lot of dogs(!), and some great tips for people starting out and wanting to grow a too.

If the start of 2021 could be summed up in a word, that would be uncertain- am I right? At the time of recording this podcast, we are firmly inside lockdown 3.0, and although there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel as vaccinations are being rolled out at a staggering pace, what we’ll be able to do in the near and slightly more distant future seems unknown at best. So how do you plan for uncertain times? Well, welcome to this episode of the Small & Supercharged Podcast!

How to plan for uncertain times

I had a message not that long ago from someone who was feeling a bit lost. Because usually at this time of year, they would be planning for things that, with the current regulations, are in doubt at best, and have already been cancelled at worse. Think shows, in person events, markets, all the things that are challenging at the moment. They asked if I’d consider doing a podcast about how to plan for uncertain times… and I thought it was a great idea.

So this episode is how to plan for uncertain times. When the world seems to have gone mad and you’re not sure what you can do (or what you’ll be able to) now or in the future. Here’s my advice…

Can I ask a teeny favour? If you listen to and love this podcast, would you consider leaving a review? It helps more people learn about the podcast and get a dose of inspiration when they need it too!
