Facebook Links Limited? Here’s What to Do Now

Running a small business at the moment is hard. Really hard. Are you feeling it?
Costs keep going up. Customers are thinking twice before they spend. Organic reach has been sliding for years. And now Meta is rationing your links like the last packet of Hobnobs.
If you already feel like you’re at capacity for all this madness, this isn’t going to help.
But here’s the thing…
This only makes life harder IF you keep doing exactly what you’ve always done.
I’m not saying it’s a good change. I don’t believe it is. I’m saying it’s the one we’ve got, so let’s be clever about it.
What’s changed?
Some Facebook Pages are now limited to two link posts a month unless they pay for Meta One, Meta’s new subscription.
Meta started testing this with a small number of Pages at the end of last year. Since Meta One launched in September, the limit has been reaching a lot more Pages, so if you haven’t had the pop-up notification yet, you might soon.
It’s rolling out unevenly, so check whether you’ve had it. (I have…)
And before you reach for the trick you’ve been told about: links in the comments count too. Sorry!
So, what do you actually do about it?
1. Work out what each link is actually for
Before you post a link, ask yourself one question: what do I want people to do when they click?
If the honest answer is “I’m not really sure” or “I just always add one”, that link probably isn’t worth spending one of your two on.
2. Check your insights before you panic
Look back at the last few times you posted a link. Did people click? Did they buy? Did they sign up?
You might be surprised. Those link posts might not have been doing as much as you thought, in which case losing a few of them isn’t the disaster it first appears.
3. Use your precious links to grow your mailing list
This is the big one. Take this as a massive sign to build your mailing list.
If you’re only getting a couple of links a month, use them for that.
Your list is the one thing Meta can’t limit, change or charge you for.
Once someone’s on your list, you can send them every link you like, whenever you like, without asking permission from an algorithm. A freebie is a great way to get people signed up. (I’ve just launched a free press kit for exactly this reason!)
4. Try “comment X and I’ll send you the link”
Invite people to comment a word, and send them the link by DM. Automated tools like ManyChat can do this for you.
But if you’re only likely to get a handful of comments, or you just want to test the water, copy and paste the link into your notes and do it manually. It’s also a lovely excuse to start a real conversation.
5. Use story link stickers (and keep them going)
Story link stickers are great. But remember, they only last 24 hours.
If the link really matters, you might need to keep sharing it, and add it to a Highlight so it doesn’t disappear.
6. Decide whether paying makes sense (with numbers, not panic)
So… should you pay for Meta One?
It depends.
If the data shows people are clicking, and those clicks bring in sales that are worth more than the cost of the Meta One tier you’d need, that’s simple maths, isn’t it?
And if the numbers say paying makes sense, that’s a business decision, not a defeat.
The business plans currently start from $14.99 a month in the US, rising through several tiers. There are other benefits beyond links too, like a verified badge, extra scheduling options, deeper insights and an AI assistant that can reply to customer messages on WhatsApp. It’s worth exploring whether they’d genuinely help your business. Not just the links.
One word of caution: the details are still changing, so check exactly what each tier includes before you sign up.
The bottom line
I don’t like this change. But I also don’t think it’s the end of the world.
Use your links on purpose. Check what’s actually working. And above all, get people onto your mailing list, where no algorithm can get between you.
Have you had the notification yet? I’d love to know how you’re handling it.
