The Real Reason Your Customer Isn't Buying Yet

Here’s something most marketing advice skips entirely: most people don’t buy because of what they need. They buy because of what they say to themselves, alone, when nobody else is listening.

The Real Reason Your Customer Isn't Buying Yet

Things like “if I had more money, I could do this properly.” Or “I’m probably getting too old to start something new now.” Quiet, private thoughts that would never make it into a customer survey, but sit behind almost every decision someone makes, including whether to buy from you. These thoughts are vulnerable and honest, and it’s vital you understand them.

Train your AI on that private self-talk, not just the polite, public version of the problem, and everything it writes gets sharper.

The Difference This Makes

Here’s what I mean, side by side.

An AI writing to a generic problem gives you something like: “Struggling to keep up with your marketing? Our course can help.” True (hopefully). Forgettable (definitely). Like every other marketing course (absolutely). It could be selling anything to anyone.

An AI trained on the actual internal breaking point gives you something closer to: “You know you should be posting, but every time you open the app, that little voice says ‘who even cares what I think.’ That voice is lying to you.” That’s not a better sentence because it’s cleverer. It’s better because it names a thought she’s actually had, one she’d never have written in a customer survey, but recognises instantly the second she reads it back.

That’s the entire difference between content that gets scrolled past and content that gets someone to stop.

What Your AI Needs to Get There

Two things, trained in properly rather than guessed at.

The core friction. Not the vague, general problem, the specific daily tension between where she is and where she wants to be.

The psychological state. What that friction actually feels like from the inside, overwhelmed, isolated, quietly embarrassed she hasn’t sorted it already. This is the emotional situation she’s living in, and it colours how she reads everything you write.

Why This Is Worth the Effort

Nobody posts “I feel like I’m failing at this” on social media. But plenty of people think it, right before they go looking for a solution. Marketing that only speaks to the tidy, public version of your customer will always feel slightly beside the point. Marketing built on her actual private thoughts is what makes her feel understood rather than sold to, and understood is what gets someone to stop scrolling and start reading properly.

This is exactly what I teach inside Train Your AI Social Media Assistant in Sixty Minutes, how to identify and document your customer’s internal breaking point properly, so your AI stops writing to the surface and starts writing to the person underneath it.
